Myanmar Deitta would like take a moment to give a shout out to Yu Yu Myint Than. Yu Yu is a young, female photographer who joined the International Reporting Workshop earlier this year as the only amateur photographer to earn a scholarship, and not only held her own against her professional counterparts but showed that she could better them. Since then Yu Yu has become a full-time photojournalist with the Myanmar Times and, we hope, an inspiration to all aspiring female photographers in Myanmar. Today Yu Yu brought a whole bunch of new work into the gallery, continuing her documentation of a very difficult subject which she began to explore during the workshop. She has already planned two further trips to continue the story. In a country where documentary photography is very much in its infancy it is fantastic to see a young, female photographer with such passion and the talent to back it up. We would like to congratulate Yu Yu on her success and wish her all the best for the continuation of her project. She is an example to all documentary photographers in Myanmar.
